The Bobcat identity takes shape

First perfection, the mascot vote, wartime silence, the postwar return and the 10–0 championship team come together in one story.

The 1974–87 story connects the Pearson rebuild, the bowl and playoff breakthroughs, Mike Clark’s All-State run, the lean middle years and the Tobacco Bowl rebound.

1986
One Last Push Back-to-back shutouts, a 3–1 midseason surge, full White House game video and a later retrospective that remembers the rivalry game as 0–0 into the final eight minutes.
1987
Four tapes close the Corlew era Buddy Corlew’s ninth and final season, a 35–57 tenure summary, Aaron Keith’s 177-yard Trousdale game and four dated full-game films.
1988
Starting From the Ground Up Sorrells takes over at 27: two returning starters, 40 preseason players, a first district win since 1986 and 18 scrapbook features.
1989
The defense changes the trajectory 147 fewer points allowed than 1988, an 0–4 start followed by a 3–3 finish, and scrapbook coverage that now reaches all the way to the Portland finale.
1990
Four wins, three shutouts A 4–3 start, three varsity shutouts and Cheatham and Westmoreland scoring details from the third Sorrells season.
1991
Roster + summer league + game coverage A 45-player roster, annotated Homecoming roster, June passing-league story and Cheatham and Springfield coverage.
1992
The roster gives way to a team portrait A printed team-photo/schedule source anchors the five-win season and the first varsity-year appearance of Derrick Lucas in the season record.
1993
Lucas before Mr. Football Feature profile, interpreter practice photo and five full-game videos.
2004
Bound for the ’Boro The 156-page scrapbook follows four playoff wins, Mr. Football, the BlueCross Bowl and the state-runner-up story.
2008
Ziegler father-son thread Zack Ziegler lands six entries in the 100-yard rushing records, ten years after Kelly joined the Williams-era staff.
2009
A New Class, Another Playoff 6–5 · Class 4A · A playoff return and the final year in the 2002–09 CoachT window.
1927–1945
Origins & Wartime The known record begins in 1927, includes the first perfect team in 1938, the adoption of the Bobcat mascot in 1940, a county championship in 1941 and a two-year WWII pause.
1946–1955
Postwar Rebuild Football returns in 1946 and builds toward Harold Fletcher's perfect 10–0 Lower Cumberland Valley championship team in 1955.
1956–1968
The Winning Standard Blue Howse builds the program's defining run, followed by Doug True and Jerry Pearson keeping Greenbrier in championship and bowl contention.
1969–1978
Bowls to the Playoffs Dan Owsley and Jerry Pearson take Greenbrier through back-to-back Blanket Bowl wins, a 1976 Industrial Bowl title and the program's first TSSAA playoff appearance in 1977.
1979–1987
The Corlew Years A history section built around Mike Clark and the 8–3 Industrial Bowl peak, the 1984 low, the 1985 Tobacco Bowl rebound, a coaching lineage into the next era and 11 full-game videos.
1988–1993
The Sorrells Foundation Steve Sorrells takes over, the program climbs from two wins to .500, and Derrick Lucas emerges before his historic 1994 Mr. Football season.
1994–2000
Mr. Football to the Williams Era Derrick Lucas, the end of the Sorrells era, the short Scott Smith transition and Kirk Williams's arrival in 1998.
2001–2002
The Breakthrough Begins Back-to-back playoff trips culminate in Greenbrier’s first TSSAA playoff victory in 2002.
2003–2008
The Championship Run & Aftermath Back-to-back region titles lead to the 2004 state final, another region crown follows in 2005, and the era closes with Zack Ziegler’s six 100-yard games in 2008.

First perfect team 6–0 on record.
1940
The Bobcat is born Student body officially adopts the Bobcat mascot.
1955
10–0 champions Lower Cumberland Valley champions.
1960–61
Back-to-back perfection 19–0 across two seasons in the heart of a 24-game win streak.
1977
Playoff pioneers District champions and first TSSAA playoff appearance.
1994
Mr. Football Derrick Lucas becomes Greenbrier's first Mr. Football winner.
2002
First playoff victory Greenbrier shuts out Lexington 27–0 and reaches Round 2.
2003
Into the 3A elite Region champions and Class 3A semifinalists.
2004
State runner-up 13–2, Class 3A runner-up and Roger Herndon wins Mr. Football.
2005
Region champions again 9–3 with a perfect 6–0 region record.
2008
Ziegler in the Record Book Zack Ziegler records six 100-yard rushing games.
