Four Wins, Three Shutouts
Greenbrier's record moved forward again in 1990. After Steve Sorrells opened his tenure 2–8 in 1988 and improved to 3–7 in 1989, the Bobcats reached 4–6 in year three — the first four-win season of the Sorrells era and Greenbrier's first since 1986.
The four wins had a clear identity. Greenbrier beat Montgomery Central 7–0, Cheatham County 14–6, Houston County 13–0 and East Robertson 7–0. Across those four victories, the defense surrendered only six total points. Three of the wins were shutouts, and after the East Robertson game the Bobcats stood 4–3.
The Cheatham County win now has a contemporary scoring capsule. Todd Williamson threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Foote and scored again on a 25-yard run. The clipping also preserves Ludvig Swedjemark on the extra point, giving the 14–6 win actual play-level detail instead of only a final score.
Historical District 10 standings place Greenbrier fifth at 0–4 in district play. The four district losses — Macon County, Springfield, White House and Portland — accounted for a combined 21 Greenbrier points and 154 opponent points.
The final three games turned a promising 4–3 start into the 4–6 finish. White House won 38–14, Westmoreland won 35–9 and Portland closed the season 42–7. The recovered Westmoreland scoring summary is especially useful because it confirms Greenbrier was 4–5 after that game and preserves the Bobcats' scoring plays: a 20-yard field goal by Ludvig Swedjemark and a 5-yard touchdown run credited in the newspaper to Jamie Hire.
Greenbrier's 100-yard rushing ledger supplies another piece of the varsity picture. Jeremy Hire ran for 130 yards against Houston County and 109 against White House. The Houston County performance came in the 13–0 shutout, while the White House entry survived even in a rivalry loss.

A complete 1990 Greenbrier Middle School sheet preserves 39 players, the staff and a seven-game schedule. Most notably for the long-term archive, Derrick Lucas wears No. 33 on this roster — two years before his freshman varsity season and four years before his 1994 Mr. Football award.
The middle-school sheet identifies Tom Kirkland as head coach, Steve Dorris as defensive coach and Terry Riley as interpreter for deaf students. It also names Jason Parker as manager, Eric Hillier as assistant, Danny Weeks as home-game announcer and Darrell Dillard in equipment. A companion newspaper clipping reports that Greenbrier Middle defeated Jo Byrns 8–0 to end a four-year losing streak.
That game story is now transcribed correctly: Brandon Rector scored the touchdown and two-point conversion, with David Hulsizer setting up the touchdown on a long run. Coach Kirkland praised Dustin Greenwell at fullback and Charles Esque and Tyler Burnette on defense, while Brian Rottero, Jamie Poole and Tommy Hughes were also named as standouts.
