Captains & Leadership

Named captains, documented leadership practice and the gaps the collection still needs to fill.

SOURCE-LED RECORD

What the school register actually says

This page preserves the surviving captain document without inventing names for missing years.

1973–2001Seniors were game captains.

That is the exact program-wide practice recorded in the surviving Greenbrier captain register. For these seasons, a fixed season-captain list should not be manufactured unless a program, roster or contemporary clipping identifies one.

ABOUT THE SOURCE

About this source

Primary source: Greenbrier High School Bobcats Football Captains, a school football document last saved in 2019. Spellings are preserved as recorded. A year absent from the document is not presented here as evidence that Greenbrier had no captain that season.

1960–1962 · captain stories

Names inside the undefeated run

William Clark Bellar appears in the captain register across 1960, 1961 and 1962. Steve Edging appears in 1960 and 1961. Their Hall of Fame profiles connect the names to conference honors, college football and the two undefeated teams.

1963–1968 · captain stories

Names behind the title years

The captain register connects Tommy Cannady, Kim Parker, William Pitt, Phillip Edwards and Jason White to deeper profiles. Hall wording that conflicts with the register stays identified rather than replacing it.

1969–1975 · leadership record

Named captains to the senior game-captain era

The register names Randy Hand and Steve Pendley in 1969, Victor Sloan and David Williams in 1971, and Ivan Bell and Michael Johnson in 1972. Beginning in 1973, it says seniors served as game captains rather than supplying fixed season lists.

1976–1982 · leadership record

One named pair inside the game-captain era

The record names Tony Reasoner and Brad McClung for 1976. Its broader note says seniors served as game captains from 1973 through 2001, without fixed annual lists for 1977–82.
