The Carroll–Pitt Trophy

Two rivals remembered together

The Hall says Pitt enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1968 and was killed by enemy artillery in Vietnam that August. Springfield athlete Dwight Carroll, also a Marine, was killed in Vietnam after the two had become friends through competition.

American Legion Post 45 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2120 established the Carroll–Pitt Trophy in their honor. It is awarded in the Greenbrier–Springfield football rivalry, carrying both names forward.
