2001 Season

Three wins, a late offensive surge and another TSSAA playoff appearance in the opening season of the new century.
Head Coach: Kirk WilliamsTSSAA Playoffs

Greenbrier opened the century with a difficult 3–8 season, but the record still ended in November. After five straight losses to open the year, the Bobcats found wins over Page, Cheatham County and Giles County.

The 48–20 Giles County win was the offensive high point of the season, and a contemporary clipping from the 2002 clippings adds the game details. Roger Herndon carried eight times for 147 yards and two touchdowns; Bobby George had 18 carries for 130 yards; Greenbrier totaled 396 yards of offense. The article also says the win clinched Greenbrier’s fourth playoff berth in four seasons under Kirk Williams.

McNairy Central ended the season 28–14 in the first round of the TSSAA playoffs. It was Greenbrier’s eighth consecutive playoff appearance. The result closed a difficult year, but the return to November and the available game film make 2001 the clearest prologue to the breakthrough that followed in 2002.

A difficult season still reached November, while all ten regular-season films and a 396-yard Giles County account document the bridge to 2002.

The region capsule returned Brandon Holder, Chad Armes, John Burkhalter, Brandon Hajdu, Bobby George, Jonathon McDade, Ernie Smith and Tim Vincent, while emphasizing youth and offensive-line development.

After an 0–5 opening, Greenbrier beat Page and Cheatham County, then gained 396 yards in a 48–20 win over Giles County. Roger Herndon ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns; Bobby George added 130.

McNairy Central ended the eighth consecutive playoff season. All ten regular-season games survive in the film collection, making this the clearest visual prologue to the breakthrough that followed.
