SEASON IN CONTEXT

A homegrown handoff, a midseason surge and one last playoff chase.

John Elmore, a 1985 Greenbrier graduate and longtime Bobcat assistant, took over the program after Kirk Williams' retirement. Spring work tested a 4-2-5 defense and blended Wing-T roots with shotgun and zone-read ideas; by summer, the offense was leaning into a three-receiver spread with Bailey Young at quarterback.

The first five weeks split sharply: Greenbrier's two wins produced 81 points, while its three losses produced seven. A 34–31 Homecoming win over Montgomery Central changed the season's direction. The Bobcats then beat White House Heritage on Cole Matherley's 33-yard catch and scored 43 second-half points against Whites Creek, completing a three-game, 113–79 run and four wins in five games.

The CPA loss left a conditional playoff route, but East Nashville's 27–21 open-week win over Heritage eliminated Greenbrier before the Stratford finale. The Bobcats still led unbeaten Stratford 10–0 and recovered a late onside kick before falling 21–16. Five opponents reached the playoffs, every Greenbrier loss came against one of them, and the opponents finished a combined 49–63.

Verified scoring correction: the contemporary report, MaxPreps and Greenbrier's archived local box score agree that the Whites Creek final was 52–28. That makes the season total 236–243 and region scoring 121–164, not the seven-points-lower totals produced by AHSFHS's 52–21 entry.

PEOPLE · HONORS · IDENTITY

The first Elmore team—and the players who defined it.

John Elmore

A 1985 Greenbrier graduate and assistant in the program from 1998, Elmore called the job a dream he had held since seventh grade. His first team finished 5–5 and received the A.F. Bridges Sportsmanship Award.

Bailey Young

Starting quarterback, captain and at-large all-region selection. He accounted for all three Greenbrier touchdowns at CPA and nearly finished the Stratford upset after leading the late touchdown drive.

Nick Davis

Region 5-3A running-back honoree and first-team all-county. He finished with 863 rushing yards and eight touchdowns plus 153 receiving yards and one score; Portland produced 225 rushing yards and four total touchdowns.

Micah Escue

At-large all-region and first-team all-county defensive back: 56 tackles, five interceptions, two touchdowns and one pass breakup. He scored three ways against Whites Creek and returned an interception at Stratford.

Jacob Rottero

Captain, Region 5-3A linebacker honoree and Robertson County defensive MVP. His all-county line was 106 tackles, two sacks, one fumble recovery and one blocked punt.

Hunter Presley

Captain, Region 5-3A offensive-line honoree and county Lineman of the Year. The all-county report also credited him with 37 tackles and two sacks.

Cole Matherley

At-large all-region and second-team all-county defensive back. His 33-yard catch with 39 seconds left won the Heritage game later selected as Robertson County's Game of the Year.

Tyler Deaton · Leonardo Pan

Deaton was a captain and first-team all-county offensive lineman. Pan earned the region kicking honor and second-team all-county recognition.

Honor-label boundary: the contemporary all-region story lists Presley, Davis, Rottero and Pan by position, with Young, Matherley and Micah Escue at large. Greenbrier's school register calls the four positional entries Region 5-3A MVPs. Each wording remains attached to its source.
