Eight wins and the first Blanket Bowl
Greenbrier stood 1–2 after losses to Bellevue and White House around a Joelton win. The response was five straight victories, including shutouts of Jo Byrns and Ashland City.
Portland ended that streak, but Greenbrier beat Dover and then McEwen in the Blanket Bowl at Springfield. The final eight games totaled 7–1 and 243–97 in the combined record.
The rendered school score page prints the bowl as 14–12. Greenbrier’s accolades material, the independent season schedule and the separate Tennessee bowl record give 16–12, which remains the indexed final. The difference stays attached to the game.

The surviving records do not fully use the same lines
The school page prints McEwen 14–12, White House 30–12, Portland 36–16 and Ashland City as the 39–0 opponent. The independent schedule gives 16–12, 20–12, 37–16 and Cheatham County. The combined index retains the independently supported 16–12 bowl score but otherwise follows Greenbrier’s rows.
Names in the surviving records
The surviving honors register has no 1971 entry. The Blanket Bowl championship remains established by the team records.
The captain list names Victor Sloan and David Williams.
One season inside a seven-year era
The combined 1969–75 record totals 38–35, 1,290–1,293 and twelve shutout wins. It moves from a conference runner-up through two Blanket Bowl titles and into Pearson’s return.
