1974–1975 · THE RETURN BEFORE THE BOWL

Pearson Returns

Two slow starts, two recoveries and the bridge into Greenbrier’s next championship season.

First two seasons back

8–13 · 218–413 · three shutout wins

Jerry Pearson returned after five seasons away. Both teams began slowly, but each established the recovery pattern that preceded the 9–2 Industrial Bowl champions.

1974

0–4, then four wins in six

Consecutive shutouts of East Robertson and Jo Byrns ended the winless start. Wins over Ashland City and Waverly later brought the middle six-game block to 4–2.

1975

0–5, then a 4–1 finish

The verified 4–6 record replaces an older erroneous 8–3 public listing. Greenbrier’s final five games totaled 69–45, with Tony Reasoner, Steve Castleman, Jimmy Biggs and Dennis Lee named All-Mid-State.

One year later

The bridge reaches the Industrial Bowl

Greenbrier jumped to 9–2 in 1976 and beat Livingston Academy 35–6 for the Industrial Bowl championship. Reasoner’s Hall profile carries him from the 1975 honors list into that bowl as its Most Valuable Lineman.
