Junior tailback Derrick “Rocket” Lucas became the first Mr. Football winner in school history. The Tennessean reported 1,414 rushing yards and credited Lucas with helping return Greenbrier to the state playoffs for the first time since 1977.
The postseason created a rematch with Waverly. Greenbrier had lost the regular-season meeting 20–17 before falling 20–7 in the first round.
