A Greenbrier graduate comes home
Williams, a 1979 Greenbrier graduate, became head coach in July 1998 at age 37. He had spent ten seasons as a Greenbrier assistant and the previous five at Springfield.
His first four teams went 19–25, scored 754 points and allowed 872. Every one reached the playoffs, and the 1999 team delivered Greenbrier's first winning season since 1981.
