Greenbrier had reached the semifinal in 2003. In 2004 the Bobcats returned to the same round, won it on the road in Memphis, and added the one game the program had never played before.

The four wins
The final
Greenbrier entered the Dec. 4 BlueCross Bowl at 13–1. Fulton entered at 12–2. The official program lists the game for noon at Middle Tennessee State University and shows both clubs’ roads to the title game.
Fulton won 34–6. The loss is part of the feature, not an epilogue to hide: it is the game that fixes the 2004 team’s place in TSSAA history as Greenbrier’s first — and still only — football state runner-up.
