A sophomore on the podium
At the 2018 Class A-AA state tournament, Greenbrier sophomore Cole McCartney finished third at 106 pounds. He pinned Harpeth’s Jackson Whitlow in 2:28 in the third-place bout. The official final results list a 40–2 record.
A high-school career beyond one meet
Ouachita Baptist’s biography credits McCartney with four regional championships, three state top-four finishes, three all-state selections and two All-Mid-State Dream Team selections. It also records his participation in cross country at Greenbrier.
The Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s 2019–20 all-state list supplies another dated checkpoint: McCartney appears as a Greenbrier senior at 126 pounds.
Continuing at Ouachita Baptist
McCartney’s college biography records a 1–3 season in 2020–21. His first college victory came against Lyon’s Jacob Lawrinenko, a 16–0 technical fall on February 2. Ouachita’s 2022–23 roster lists him at 133 pounds.
Those college records extend the Greenbrier story beyond the state podium, while keeping each accomplishment tied to its school and season.
