SEASON IN CONTEXT

From 0–3 to November—against a playoff-heavy schedule.

Kirk Williams' 17th Greenbrier team started 0–3, then beat Portland, Cheatham County, Macon County and Harpeth by a combined 138–29. That four-game run lifted the Bobcats to 4–3 and put the season back on a postseason line.

Greenbrier finished the regular season 5–5 and 3–3 in District 9-AA, then traveled as the No. 7 seed to No. 2 Pearl-Cohn. Eight of 11 opponents reached the playoffs; all six Bobcat losses came against postseason teams. Those opponents finished a combined 67–61.

The season's offensive identity was the backfield: later previews independently described Paul Gonser and Hayden Boyles as 1,000-yard rushers. Greenbrier's August jamboree tune-up was a 7–0 quarter against Davidson Academy.

Carroll–Pitt rivalry note: a 2021 local report says Springfield then held the trophy for an eighth straight season, which documents 2014 as the start of that run. The recovered sources do not establish the memorial trophy's original start date.
