Ziegler in the Record Book
Greenbrier finished 5–5 in 2008, alternating between explosive wins and difficult region losses. The Bobcats beat Pope John Paul II, Portland, Cheatham County, Pearl-Cohn and Macon County.
Zack Ziegler is the season’s clearest statistical through-line. Greenbrier’s 100-yard rushing records list six games for him: 105 against Sycamore, 130 against Pope John Paul II, 185 against Macon County, 192 against DeKalb County, 193 against Portland and 230 against Cheatham County. The Cheatham entry also credits him with three rushing touchdowns and one receiving score.
The DeKalb County game adds another piece. WJLE’s contemporary report says Ziegler returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown. That report gives the final as 46–27, correcting the 45–27 opponent total in the Greenbrier score record.
The family connection closes a decade-long loop in the collection: Kelly Ziegler is listed on Greenbrier’s staff from 1998–2009, and a decade after his arrival his son appears six times in the program’s 100-yard rushing records.
