Derrick Lucas and the Crockett Bowl
The 1993 scrapbook contains a substantial feature on sophomore tailback Derrick Lucas, who had been deaf since age four, plus a separate color image showing interpreter Tammy Giles signing plays and instructions to him during practice.
The profile describes Lucas as fully embedded with his teammates and notes that teammates learned signs alongside him. It names quarterback Jamie Poole and teammates Chris Jones and Brian Rottero, giving the season a human and roster context beyond the stat line.
Greenbrier opened the season by beating Montgomery Central 42–0 and Macon County 28–0, starting 2–0 with a 70–0 combined scoring margin. A newly separated newspaper clipping from the Macon win records Derrick Lucas at 141 yards on 19 carries, including touchdown runs of 75 and 21 yards. Jamie Poole also threw an 8-yard touchdown to Brannon Jones and finished 6-of-10 for 69 yards.
On the field, the rushing records list four 100-yard games: 141 against Macon County, 142 against Hickman County, 259 against DeKalb County and 161 against Houston County. The 259-yard DeKalb County game was Lucas's largest rushing total in the season records.
Greenbrier went 5–6 and finished the year at the Crockett Bowl in Lawrenceburg, losing 27–0 to Lawrence County. This was a bowl game, not a TSSAA playoff appearance.
