Combined-source reconstruction

The file grows from results into people

2–4 across combined entries

Newspaper reports document four losses—to Duncan, Goodlettsville, Jere Baxter and Bell—and a 39–12 November win over Jere Baxter. The original all-time score list adds a separate Bell win without a recovered score, bringing the combined archive to entries.

The four known scores total 52 points for and 90 against. Both Bell entries lack a score. Dates and lineup detail come from newspapers, while the all-time score list supplies the second Bell result; those source roles remain visible rather than being blended into false precision.

Joe Henry Carter is the listed coach. The season’s named players now connect to the 1927–28 team photograph, the explicitly school-identified October lineups and the November lineup.

Evidence-based classification

Why the November Jere Baxter win now counts as Greenbrier High

Resolution: school-team entry, with the original wording disclosed. The November report calls Greenbrier an “amateur” team, but its lineup substantially continues the explicitly school-identified October lineup and the named 1927–28 school-team photograph. The archive now classifies it as Greenbrier High while retaining that inference trail.

This does not prove that every repeated surname is the same person, and it does not turn the photograph into a 1928 game roster. It does establish a much stronger school-team continuity than the word “amateur” alone suggested. The inference is now stated rather than hidden.
