Unbeaten at Greenbrier
Tennessee State’s biography records a 21–0 senior singles season for Grant Maddox. TSSAA’s tournament bracket preserves the finish: victories over David Worley and Blake Savard, followed by a two-sets-to-one win over Mason Grear in the May 23, 2014 championship match.
TSU also credits Maddox with Tennessee’s No. 1 USTA boys’ 18-and-under ranking in 2013.
Success in the classroom, too
Maddox led Tennessee State with 14 singles victories in 2015–16. His biography lists the university’s Academic Excellence Award for the highest GPA among male student-athletes in both 2015–16 and 2016–17, plus CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition in 2016–17.
That adds another part to his story: the Greenbrier state champion continued to compete while earning recognition for his college coursework.
