23–18 and a second trip to Lafayette
Corlew’s first four teams totaled 716–596 with nine shutout wins. The arc rose from 5–1 in his debut, through four shutouts in 1980, to an 8–3 district runner-up in 1981.

The honors record and contemporary pages turn the passage into more than standings: Industrial Bowl awards, an Austin Peay signing, repeated All-State recognition, a 43-yard field goal with 1:15 left and a 1982 playoff path that remained alive at 5–2.
