The winning standard takes hold
Blue Howse followed the perfect 1955 team and presided over the most concentrated winning stretch in the surviving mid-century record. Because the early schedule and later coaching summaries do not reconcile perfectly on an aggregate career total, this feature lets the season-by-season record lead.
1956–58 · immediate contention
Howse opened 7–2 in 1956, followed with a perfect 8–0 Lower Cumberland Valley championship in 1957, then went 5–3 in 1958. Dave Hall's Hall of Fame biography gives the 1957 team a human face: Hall captained football and basketball as a senior and led Greenbrier football in scoring as both a junior and senior.

The surviving schedule ends with a 7–0 Strawberry Bowl win over Watertown. That finish became the launch point for the program's famous 24-game winning run.
1959 SEASON24 STRAIGHT1960–61 · the Hall of Fame teams
The Greenbrier Athletic Hall of Fame inducted the 1960 and 1961 football teams together in 2007. Its team page preserves both rosters, identifies both as Red River Valley Conference champions and records a combined 19–0 mark with a stated scoring margin of 651–47.

Greenbrier went 6–1. The 24-game winning run ended against Charlotte, but the season closed a seven-year chapter that had established the program's mid-century standard.

Greenbrier's preserved coaching record, later historical databases and the surviving year-by-year schedule are not perfectly aligned on Blue Howse's aggregate career record. Rather than manufacture a single total, VOTC publishes the individual seasons and uses the Hall of Fame for roster, induction and legacy context.
