Three perfect football teams
The Greenbrier Athletic Hall of Fame says Howse arrived in fall 1956 and coached football plus boys and girls basketball through the end of the 1962 school year. His football teams were perfect in 1957, 1960 and 1961; the last two won Red River Valley titles and were later inducted together.
The seven school score-list seasons total 52–8, 1,527–343 and 28 shutouts. The separate coaching register prints 52–9, so the page keeps both summaries rather than assigning an extra result.
A multi-sport coach and school leader
The Hall credits Howse’s boys basketball team with a District 20 championship and regional runner-up finish, and his girls team with an undefeated season, District 20 title and March of Dimes Game win over DuPont. He later taught and coached at Springfield High School and served as Robertson County superintendent.
His obituary identifies him as Weck Hodge “Blue” Howse, born February 12, 1926, a World War II Navy veteran and a Robertson County educator for 58 years. It also records work as a contractor and farmer and his interest in Tennessee Walking Horses.
A record difference that remains open
Greenbrier’s season rows total 52–8. The coaching register says 52–9. The independent schedule’s extra 1958 White House win and 1960 Castle Heights loss create 53–9. None of those summaries can silently replace the others, so each remains labeled by source.
