Greenbrier and Creek Wood arrived at their 2017 region opener with matching 2–0 records. Jim’s working script greeted the return of an opponent the Bobcats had not seen in several seasons—and built its case for the night around what Greenbrier had just done at West Creek.
A Few lopsided battles, a few razor thin battles in the past with the Redhawks. This one should be exciting as both teams open Region 5-4A play tonight.
Escue on both sides of the ball
The West Creek recap had plenty of names: Andrew Cline finding Tanner Lynch, Brandon Chambers driving the pile, and a defense producing takeaways and a safety. But the largest share of the spotlight belonged to Micah Escue.
But the Marquee Player was Micah Escue who led all rushers with 19 carries for 125 yards & two touchdowns. Oh, those pair of ints? They were his, which both times the Bobcat offense was able to capitalize.
Those figures describe the August 25 West Creek game, not the Creek Wood contest still ahead. The preserved game account supports the same rushing and interception line.
| Bobcat | Reported game detail |
|---|---|
| Micah Escue | 19 carries, 125 yards, two rushing touchdowns and two interceptions |
| Andrew Cline | 6 of 9 passing for 42 yards and a touchdown |
| Brandon Chambers | Six carries and a rushing touchdown |
A scouting report from Dad
The notebook then turns toward Creek Wood’s speed and running game. Its most personal transition introduces someone who knew Greenbrier well and had watched the Red Hawks open their season.
Earlier this week, we caught up with the Director of Student Services in Dickson Co, former Greenbrier High School Principal, Football Coach and my Dad, Steve Sorrells. He has seen the Redhawks in both their games to start the season, here is what he had to say:
The interview itself is not transcribed in this document. What survives is Jim’s introduction and the simple return to the booth: “Thanks, Dad.”
How the night finished
The September 2 game record carries the story forward: Greenbrier built a 21–0 lead, weathered Creek Wood’s quick third-quarter response and won 21–14. The pregame anticipation became a 3–0 start.
