Greenbrier before the war
The Greenbrier Athletic Hall of Fame describes George Fisher as one of the school’s most versatile athletes: football, basketball, baseball and pole vaulting, with captaincy in both football and basketball. He graduated in 1942, placing his senior year directly beside Greenbrier’s 1941 Robertson County Association championship football season.

The Hall records that Fisher attended Austin Peay, entered the U.S. Navy in 1943, returned after his discharge in 1946 and competed there in football, basketball and baseball.
Coach + administrator
The Hall later traces him back to Austin Peay as an assistant football coach, golf coach, head basketball coach, athletic director and professor. It also records OVC Coach of the Year honors in 1967.
A human bridge across eras
Fisher gives the early-1940s wing something the score record cannot: a named Greenbrier athlete whose story crosses the wartime interruption, college athletics and the later Austin Peay connection that appears again in Greenbrier history.
