A home debut, with chances to win

Bell High of Adams won 13–6 on October 1 in a game the Nashville Banner described as the first football game witnessed in Greenbrier. The account gives the home team 15 first downs and describes two sustained drives, while blaming fumbles for the defeat.

Bell’s right half, Saeger, scored both visiting touchdowns. The report also singled out Bell left end Newton as a consistent ground gainer. It does not name Greenbrier’s touchdown scorer.

From the surviving record

Two drives survive in the account

Second quarter

Greenbrier advanced from its own 10-yard line to Bell’s eight. That is an 82-yard advance between the stated field positions; the report does not supply a play count or say how the possession ended.

Fourth quarter

The touchdown drive began at Greenbrier’s own 40-yard line and reached the end zone. This corrects the earlier page’s reading of the fourth-quarter starting point as the 10.

The newspaper connects both Saeger touchdowns with Greenbrier fumbles, without explaining the exact recovery or return sequence. The surviving account supports a turnover-driven result, but not a reconstructed play-by-play.
