Earl, Mary and Jimmy · 1948
A year after Earl’s Greenbrier graduation, this group photograph records another part of his life. The book’s printed caption names Earl Suter and Mary Suter in the third row, followed by Evelyn Crawford, Virginia Crutcher and Tommy Crutcher. It names Jimmy Suter in the second row.

The identification comes from the printed caption. It supplies the year but does not identify the occasion or venue.
Helen and Ed · the school photograph of 1923
The heading reads “Old Greenbrier Elementary School 1923.” Its caption includes Helen Suter Shannon and Ed Suter. The family account elsewhere in the book names Helen and Edward among Earl’s siblings.

The caption uses Helen’s married surname to identify her retrospectively. The image’s 1923 date belongs to the school photograph.
A family helping the town remember
Libbie Suter’s signed account describes “Greenbrier’s Yesterday,” an event begun in the fall of 1984 on the City Hall grounds. Organized by the Greenbrier Volunteer Fire Department under Chief Harold Stubblefield, it brought older crafts, food and music into public view and continued for several years.

| Name | Contribution | Printed page |
|---|---|---|
| Libbie Suter | Helped organize the auction and publicize the event; later ran the country store with Gary. | 166, 169 |
| Gary Suter | Invited entertainers, ran the country store with Libbie and demonstrated rope making. | 166, 169 |
| Ricky Suter | Performed with his band, The Midnight Blue. | 166 |
| Urbie Suter | Joined the quilting demonstration. | 168 |
| Ed Suter | Supplied twists of tobacco displayed in the country store. | 169 |
Libbie also names Steve Sorrells among the cider-making helpers. His exact connection to the Suter family is not specified in this account. The narrative recalls several years of the event, so these activities and the undated photographs are not all assigned to its first year.
