The surviving source

The contemporary page supplies the names and details used in this chapter. The season and game history keep the retained final and any source differences beside it.

The opening

Five losses, one identity correction

The season began at Donelson Christian Academy. The contemporary report expands DCA and separates the opponent from Davidson Academy, which Greenbrier had played in 1997 and 1998.

Greenbrier lost its first five games, then beat Page 13–10 to begin the response.

The peak

Three hundred ninety-six yards

The Giles County account gives Roger Herndon 147 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries and Bobby George 130 yards on 18 attempts.

Greenbrier totaled 396 yards in the 48–20 win, which clinched another postseason berth.

What survives

A complete regular-season film line

Every 2001 regular-season game has a linked full-game film. McNairy Central ended the season 28–14 in the first round, but the films preserve the last complete year before the program's first playoff victory.
