19–0 · 651–47 · 14 shutouts
Greenbrier’s 1960 team went 9–0 and its 1961 team went 10–0. Across the two years the Bobcats averaged 34.3 points, allowed 2.5 and shut out nearly three-quarters of their opponents.
Seven shutouts and a state-leading note
The school list totals 370–14 and says Greenbrier led Tennessee in scoring offense and scoring defense. The last five opponents were shut out 203–0. The Hall adds that only two touchdowns were scored against the team.
Four shutouts to start, two to finish
The next team began 126–0 through four games and ended by shutting out East Robertson and Hendersonville. Its 10–0 record and Red River Valley title completed the combined 19–0 run.
The teams enter together
The Greenbrier Athletic Hall of Fame inducted the 1960 and 1961 teams together, preserves both roster captions and calls them the most successful teams in school history. William Clark Bellar and Steve Edging appear on both Hall rosters and carry individual Hall profiles.
The dominant record still has source conflicts
The Hall’s 1960 table prints Jo Byrns 40–7, but its own 651-point two-season total reconciles to Greenbrier’s 46–7 value. Separately, the independent schedule inserts a Castle Heights loss before the nine school-listed wins. Greenbrier’s score list and Hall both call the team 9–0, so the site keeps that record while displaying both conflicts.
