The same article describes Lucas as totally deaf and explains that plays were signaled from the sidelines through an interpreter. Head coach Steve Sorrells praised the dedication behind overcoming that barrier; Lucas’s father, Aaron Lucas, told the paper he had never hesitated to let his son play.
