The newspaper names both games

The football page sends Cornersville and Columbia Academy to the Walking Horse Bowl at Lewisburg for a 2 p.m. kickoff. A separate item says Lawrence County and Greenbrier would revive the Crockett Bowl at Lawrenceburg that evening.

That contemporary routing resolves the school score list’s “Walking Horse Bowl” label for the Greenbrier entry. The sentence referring to 1976 describes how long the Crockett Bowl had been dormant; it does not establish Greenbrier’s previous bowl appearance.

Lawrence County won 27–0. The game remains a postseason bowl and is not counted as a TSSAA playoff appearance.

The season around it

From 3–0 to a postseason invitation

Greenbrier opened with shutouts of Montgomery Central and Macon County, beat Hickman County to reach 3–0 and later added region wins over DeKalb County and Houston County. The regular season ended 5–5 before the Lawrenceburg trip.

Derrick Lucas’ breakout sits at the center of the year. The school rushing register gives four 100-yard games; the DeKalb report gives him 264 yards on 32 carries, five more than the register.
