We’ve moved things up a day this week, but the occasion stays the same. Senior Night here at Bobcat Stadium, with kickoff coming at seven.
For our seniors and their families, this evening carries a little extra weight. All those practices. All those rides home. All those nights in these stands. Tonight, we recognize the people who have helped carry this program—and the families who have been right there with them.
And across the field, an opponent that needs very little introduction.
Coach, when we talk about this being one of the Midstate’s oldest established rivalries, here’s what that history looks like:
Our documented series begins in 1947. There is a Greenbrier–White House game in every season since. That makes tonight the EIGHTIETH consecutive season of this matchup—and, with those extra meetings along the way, the EIGHTY-THIRD recorded game.
Now, we’ve talked before about the other great rivalries across Tennessee. Baylor and McCallie. McMinn County and Bradley Central. Harriman and Rockwood. Marion County and South Pittsburg.
But there’s a distinction between how far back a rivalry goes, how many times the teams have played, and how long they’ve kept playing without a break.
Harriman and Rockwood were already celebrating meeting number 105 back in 2023. Bradley Central and McMinn County marked what was reported as their hundredth consecutive meeting this August.
And here in our part of Tennessee, Greenbrier and White House have kept showing up for this game, season after season, since 1947.

And Coach, this rivalry has had its stretches in BOTH directions.
Before there was THE STREAK, Greenbrier won six straight against White House—from 1976 through 1981. Across those six games, the Bobcats outscored the Blue Devils 182 to 45.
Then it turned.
From 1982 through 2004, TWENTY-THREE consecutive victories for White House.
Now, this isn’t your grandparents’ Ray Stevens forty-five. For those of us who grew up around this program, “The Streak” meant something very specific.
EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.
Death. Taxes. White House defeats Greenbrier.
Until October 28, 2005.
Senior Night. Right here in the Brier Patch. The Class of 2006.
Greenbrier twenty. White House ten.
Twenty-three straight losses were over. The Bobcats finished six and oh in the region and claimed a third consecutive region championship.
That’s our Cat Classic this week, and the film and broadcast replay are linked at VOTCLive.com.

And for all the streaks, there have been some games that came down to almost nothing.
Twenty-three of the eighty-two completed meetings were decided by eight points or fewer.
The closest recorded finish? Go back seventy years—to 1956. Greenbrier fourteen, White House thirteen.
More recently, the Bobcats came up five points short in 2020, twenty-one to sixteen. In 2022, on another Thursday night, it was White House twenty, Greenbrier eighteen.
That’s how close Greenbrier has come during this current run of nine straight White House wins.
The last Bobcat victory came in 2016. The last one here at home came in 2015.
White House leads the documented series fifty-six wins to twenty-six. The Blue Devils enter tonight at two and four. Greenbrier is one and four overall, and oh and one in Region 6-4A, coming off last week’s loss to Liberty Creek.
Coach Cates, when you look at those close games—and what it takes to finally finish one—what does Greenbrier have to do tonight to give these seniors their own place in this rivalry?
[COACH CATES — KEYS TO THE GAME]
And Coach, we’ve spent a lot of time tonight talking about the history.
In a few minutes, we find out who gets to write the next chapter.
For these seniors, that opportunity is right in front of them. Their home field. Their families in the stands. White House across the line.
Twenty-one years ago, another group of Greenbrier seniors walked onto this field and gave this town a night we STILL talk about.
Tonight, these Bobcats get their chance.
BOBCAT NATION—ARE YOU PROUD TO BE A BOBCAT?
